Chihuahua Weight Chart
Weight Chart for the Chihuahua
With the confusion of the many different sizes, shapes and weights of Chihuahuas below is an average weight chart for reference from which you track your Chihuahua puppy’s growth rate. We have many emails from people asking about weights so being as this is the only point of reference available on the internet for everyone you can at least get an idea for Puppies, Teacups and Standard Chihuahuas weight comparisons. When people buy a Chihuahua some of them wish to have some idea of adult weights so being as most usually Google the subject and find the weight chart that is seen below.
Please bare in mind that this chart is only a point of reference and weights will vary with individual dogs which will be down to genetics, and lifestyle. We have wrote an article on this subject, a few years ago, as people were under the impression that the weight chart was 100% accurate so we explained the reasons that surround irregularities in the weight figures with some Chihuahua’s growth rates. It is not a case of one size fits all so although we are not a 100% firm believer in these figures it is still the most popular point of reference for everyone.
Chihuahua Puppies that lose weight.
This is NOT a good thing. Puppies that are in their very early weeks of life that are losing weight 95% of the time will not survive for very long due to various internal terminal health issues.
Do small Parents mean small Puppies?
Definitely not guaranteed, Chihuahua’s past genes play a huge part in their offspring which can skip multiple generations until they show again.
How can lifestyle affect the weight chart?
Diet and exercise are the simplest answers. Weight management needs to be addressed for adult Chihuahuas lifestyle activities.
Is it dangerous if my Adult Chihuahua loses weight?
Only if you haven’t changed their lifestyle or diet, if you haven’t then this could be the result of a medical condition that requires expert assessment.
If my puppy is not following the weights on the chart shall I try to decrease or increase their weight?
Absolutely NOT. Never be influenced by those figures even if you want to own a very small Chihuahua as an adult, they are only an observation guide and are no substitute for a healthy, happy and playful Chihuahua so just let mum do her job and the puppy to feed as they should. Having said that never be afraid to give puppy a top up if there are quite a few in the litter and one is not getting their fair share but don’t over feed, the puppy will gladly take from a syringe with a small teat attached at their own rate.
